Dear Congress Participants
It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome you to the 20th International Congress on Accounting and Auditing (CICA). This event marks yet another chapter in the history of CICA, which for over 40 years has established itself as a privileged space for dialogue and exchange between the academic and professional worlds.
In this 20th edition, we continue the tradition of fostering innovative and relevant discussions for the future of the profession.
We hope these days will be filled with learning, the sharing of experiences, and networking, contributing to the advancement of accounting and auditing in the 21st century.
We also hope this congress will be an excellent opportunity to explore together the new challenges and key topics facing our fields, with this year's edition focusing particularly on how accounting and auditing practices can contribute to a world that urgently needs to become increasingly sustainable.

Message from the President Order of Certified Accountants
The 20th edition of the International Accounting and Auditing Congress (CICA), scheduled for 30 and 31 October this year, in Aveiro, promises to be doubly special. Firstly, due to the relevance and topicality of the theme chosen by the organizing committee: "Accounting in a sustainable world” - which thus follows the theme of artificial and big data that focused attention on the edition organized by ISCAC, in Coimbra, in 2023. A subject that, in the multiple dimensions it encompasses (and which goes far beyond the environmental issue), concerns all human beings. And, no less relevant, this edition has the particularity of marking a round number: 20 editions and 40 years of history from the many stories accumulated in previous CICAs. Four decades of inseparable symbiosis between academia and the profession, where learning, sharing, plurality and universality are the greatest and immutable values of these events.
A profession that aims to maintain high standards of quality and keep its knowledge up to date cannot lose sight of the teachings coming from academia, and at the same time academia cannot disconnect itself from the day-to-day work of the profession. Only by applying the research developed in practice will accounting benefit. We can say that this strategic partnership has been crowned with success.
Therefore, the 20th edition of CICA will be another vibrant and dynamic "forum of ideas”, in which debate and the exchange of views between congress participants, whether they are speakers, moderators or simply participants, will be a constant throughout the two days of the event.
The Order of Certified Accountants, remaining faithful to tradition and working hand in hand with knowledge centers, is challenging academics and professionals from the world of accounting to attend this event.
The meeting is scheduled for next autumn, at the "historic" ISCA-UA, in Aveiro!
